What is Reiki?
Reiki is a
Japanese system of healing that works on spiritual, emotional and physical levels to support the body. It was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui, about 100 years ago, following a mystical experience. It is known as the Usui System of Natural Healing.
The Japan
ese word Reiki comes from "Rei" meaning universal, spirit, unlimited cosmic energy, and "Ki" meaning physical life force energy.
Reiki is an unseen force applied through the hands, which vitalizes the whole system, soothes pain and radiates beneficial vibrations creating harmony.
Reiki is a radionic wave, like radio waves. It can be applied directly by touch or indirectly through distance healing. It is not electricity, radiation or x-ray. It is absolutely harmless and is therefore a practical, safe and non-invasive session.
Who can receive Reiki?
Everyone. Because of its non-invasive, safe nature, Reiki can be administered to adults and children alike as a complementary session with any other approach.
Is it faith healing?
No. Faith healing requires a common belief system between practitioner and recipient. Spiritual healing does not have this requirement. Anyone can receive this extraordinary energy whether or not he or she believes in it.

Reiki and Children
Children love Reiki. Due to their open and tuned-in natures, they are usually able to feel the soothing flow of energy entering and moving around in their bodies. They are more open to the unknown and are less hampered by what they "should" be feeling. As a result, they easily work with the energy and assist their own healing. Personally, I have worked with children with broken bones; bronchial difficulties, including pneumonia, asthma and chest colds; intestinal disturbances; and emotional difficulties. Here are some of their comments: "It's like a warm bath" , "I like it on my tummy", "You're putting me to sleep", "I want some REIKI!!"
What happens during a session?
Clients wear loose, comfortable clothing and can receive a session in whatever position is comfortable for them (lying, sitting or standing.)
The practitioner's hands are placed on the client in a prescribed manner, and sometimes intuitively, depending on the condition being treated. Some people experience heat under the hands, a relaxed sensation, tingling, a pulsating energy, a floating sensation, a quiet meditative peacefulness or sleep.
In the days and weeks following a session the recipient may notice positive changes in general vitality, energy levels, pain management, stress management, eating habits, lifestyle, self-awareness, and/or relationships.
What are the benefits?
On a physical level, Reiki assists the body's own natural healing processes to boost the immune system and restore energy. Recipients may experience reduced pain, faster healing, release of toxins, relaxed muscles, improved sleep patterns, and reduced stress.
On an emotional level, Reiki soothes anxiety and assists the release of emotions promoting a sense of calm.
On a spiritual level, Reiki helps people discover that they are more than their bodies. Feeling Reiki flow through their body often changes spiritual perspectives.
