About Anna

I grew up in a home where creativity and music were highly valued. Very early, I decided to study classical ballet and and music and dedicated myself to those crafts from age 10 to 27 full-time. The discipline and dedication of the ballet world taught me patience, perseverance, and practice, as well as, how to nurture self-expression and life-giving pursuits. I credit a lot of my early training to my effectiveness today in working with others.

I have always been interested in people, and as a young adult, I was often the ‘go-to helper’ in conflicts and relational situations.

I began my own dedicated healing journey in 1987 working with my emotional history and relational issues. My Spiritual Path has included study in many traditions. In 1999, I was introduced to earth-based spirituality and began to learn from Elders of the Algonquin, Ojibway and Cree Nations. In 2001, I began studying complementary and alternative methods of healing and spirituality such as Reiki, Traditional Herbal Medicine and Yoga. In 2006, after three years of study as a Master Candidate, I was recognized as a Reiki Master within the Reiki Alliance.

My journey has also included courses with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and Traditional Wise Woman Healing. Over several years, I developed my understanding of shamanism, plant energies and the Celtic Wise Woman tradition. I continue to seek out and incorporate teachings from all walks and therapies that blend holistically into an integrated practice.

Writings

My Writings have been published in HEALTHWISE Ottawa, Reiki International Magazine and Ottawa's TONE magazine for Consciousness Raising. They are a way of teaching which feels natural to me following my long history as a technical writer and software teacher. I write when spirit moves me to do so about topics that spirit presents. I hope you will enjoy reading them and find some small nugget of gold for yourself!

Certified Yoga Instructor

In 2005, I completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Intensive under the guidance of Yogi Vishvketu and his wife Chétana Panwar of World Family Conscious Yoga of Rishikesh, India (http://www.akhandayoga.com/). This course is accredited by both the American Yoga Alliance (http://www.yogaalliance.org/) and covers all eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga. I love to teach and incorporate sound and vibration into my yoga classes. I continue to deepen my education on and off the mat blending body/mind with spiritual centering. Healing and wellness are a natural bi-product of this process.

Traditional Healer & Reiki Master

In 1999, I was introduced to earth-based spirituality. This has led me to pursue traditional plant medicine in a one year Plant Wisdom course, as well as, a one year Traditional Healer Internship to develop her understanding of plant energies and the Wise Woman skills. In 2004, I began courses with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies (founded by Michael Harner http://www.shamanism.org/) and was recognized as a Reiki Master in 2006.

Talking Circle, Pastoral Care, Pro Bono

My experience facilitating healing circles comes from personal experiences and learning with the aboriginal grandmothers (Elders) and medicine healers (Elders/Shamans), as well as, formal Aboriginal healing circle training (Elder Jim Albert, Algonquin). In 2005, I lead 'Feasting and Singing' healing circles through Centrepointe House, a centre for attitudinal training, as well as, private circles for families and those looking to heal using this method.
As part of my spiritual studies at Saint Paul University (www.ustpaul.ca), I provided chaplaincy services at Elizabeth Bruyère Hospital for stroke and cancer patients. A portion of my practice is reserved for pro bono work with persons requiring financial assistance

Facilitating and Teaching

I have also been a corporate training consultant, senior analyst, courseware designer and have twenty years training background working in both government and private sector organizations working with individuals and with groups. I brings this experience to my work within Spirit Well Holistics.

Community Service

Whenever possibly I provide community service to charities, silent auctions, and perform pro bono healing and counselling.
